Activating magic through purity of simple desires of a 5-year old

What is more thrilling than doing what you enjoy, with the people you love?

I am thrilled today to dust off suitcases and fill them up with all that my kiddos and I will need for our summer in Europe. But what’s even more thrilling, is the countdown until I get to hug my parents and my Babi. It’s been years!

Babi has actually been one of the most influential people in my early life. One memory in particular, I believe, has put me on a whole different lifeline.

When I was 5 years old, we were looking through this stack of postcards that her brother, a sailor, had sent her from around the world.

Marveling at the colorful images, I made a simple wish, “One day, I would love to see Paris, New York, and Hawaii.”

I visited Paris for the first time when I was 12 years old and will be revisiting it with my kids this summer; I moved to New York City at 20; and became an owner of a small piece of the Hawaiian paradise a few years after that.

Never dismiss the power of the simplest, most innocent desires. Their purity is what activates the magic.
